David Gross has performed extensive solo concerts both in the United States and Europe, including performances with the Berliner Symphoniker, Staatsorchester Frankfurt/Oder, Ensemble Oriol (Berlin), Rockford Symphony, Champaign-Urbana Symphony, Macon Symphony, Idaho Civic Symphony, Greenville Symphony, Anderson Symphony, Merrimack Valley Philharmonic, Hendersonville Symphony, and Brevard Philharmonic, as well as several university orchestras throughout the United States. He has been a featured soloist for the American Liszt Society National Conference, and has performed several recitals for the Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concert Series in Chicago. Gross has numerous recorded solos that were broadcast for German NPR, and he was featured in the German National Public Television film “Singing Hands” (ARTE). His recording of the Lalo Piano Concerto with the Staatsorchester Frankfurt/Oder was an ”engaging and honed performance” (Fono Forum), and his 2010 release of Voříšek piano works is available on Centaur Records. 

An active chamber musician, David Gross is a founding member of the Poinsett Piano Trio with Deirdre and Christopher Hutton. The trio has performed throughout the Southeastern US and Europe, on extensive tours of New Zealand, and several times as part of the US Piccolo Spoleto Festival.

David Gross grew up and studied piano in Germany from a young age, and holds a Diploma from the Hochschule München, a Master’s Degree from the Yale School of Music, an Artist’s Diploma from the Hochschule Hannover, and a Doctoral Degree from the University of Illinois. His principal teachers include Ludwig Hoffmann, Arie Vardi, Daniel Pollack, Claude Frank, and John Wustman. He has held positions at different universities, including Resident Artist at Western Michigan University, Visiting Associate Professor at Goshen College, Visiting Professor at the University of Cape Town (South Africa), and Professor at Furman University, where he has taught since 2001. Dr. Gross has been a featured lecturer and performer at the Goethe Institute in Boston, national conferences of the College Music Society and the Music Teachers National Association, and local MTNA chapters throughout the Southeast.

Als Solist in zahlreichen Meisterwerken der Klavierliteratur war David Gross zu Gast bei diversen Orchestern in den USA und Deutschland: Berliner Symphoniker, Staatsorchester Frankfurt/Oder, Ensemble Oriol (Berlin), Rockford Symphony, Champaign-Urbana Symphony, Macon Symphony, Idaho Civic Symphony, Greenville Symphony, Brevard Philharmonic, Anderson Symphony, Merrimack Valley Philharmonic, Hendersonville Symphony, American Liszt Society und mit mehreren Universitätsorchestern in den Vereinigten Staaten.

Soloaufnahmen und live-Mitschnitte für Chicago Public Radio (Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concert Series), Sender Freies Berlin, RIAS Berlin, Bayerischer Rundfunk, Hessischer Rundfunk und NDR Hannover, sowie für die Koproduktion "Singende Hände" (SFB/ARTE).  Auftritte in der Philharmonie Berlin.  Seine Aufnahme des Klavierkonzerts von Edouard Lalo mit dem Staatsorchester Frankfurt/Oder fand die Zustimmung des Fono-Forums für ihre "engagierten und griffigen Interpretationen".  Auf Centaur Records erschien Gross' "mit sicherem Instinkt" (Piano News) vorgetragene Einspielung von Werken des tschechischen Komponisten Jan Václav Hugo Voříšek.  "Auch die zweiteilige Fantasie in C-dur ist vom improvisatorischen Geist des Klaviervirtuosen Voříšek beseelt und vermag den Hörer zu fesseln."

Von der Kritik immer wieder hervorgehoben wird David Gross' warme Anschlagskultur, lyrisches inniges Spiel, farbiges Klangspektrum und brillante Technik, aber auch seine Fähigkeit, große Formen gedanklich zu durchdringen und dem Hörer nahezubringen.  Sein Repertoire umfasst Werke der vergangenen drei Jahrhunderte und bewegt sich auch mit Freude und Abenteuerlust auf wenig bewanderten Pfaden.

Als Kammermusiker ist David Gross Gründungsmitglied des Berliner Klaviertrios sowie des Poinsett Piano Trio, mit welchem er auf ausgedehnten Tourneen in Neuseeland, den USA und Deutschland auftrat.

Der gebürtige Berliner erhielt ersten Klavierunterricht bei Elisabeth Dounias-Sindermann, wurde später Schüler von Ingeborg Peukert am Julius-Stern-Institut.  Abitur am Evangelischen Gymnasium zum Grauen Kloster.  Studium bei Ludwig Hoffmann (München, Examen), Arie Vardi (Hannover, Solistenexamen), Daniel Pollack and Claude Frank (Yale, Master's of Music) und John Wustman (University of Illinois, Doctor of Musical Arts).  Auszeichnungen bei Internationalen Klavierwettbewerben in Marsala und Bremen.  

Seit 2001 ist David Gross Professor an der Furman University in Greenville/South Carolina.  Zuvor Lehrtätigkeit an der Hochschule "Hanns Eisler" Berlin, Goshen College und Western Michigan University sowie Gastprofessor an der University of Cape Town (Republic of South Africa).  Gesprächskonzerte und Vorträge auf Konferenzen der College Music Society und Music Teachers National Association.

Musikalisches, künstlerisches und technisches Verständnis an junge Musikerinnen und Musiker weiterzugeben, ist David Gross ein Herzensanliegen.
